Yesterday (March 2, 2014) I had the privelege of giving you your baby blessing. So many people came to see you, sweetheart, and they were so excited to feel of your little spirit. Grandpa Bartholomew and Grandpa Atkin were there in the circle with me, along with Uncle Camron, Uncle Johnevan, and a few of your great uncles that came up last minuted because others couldn't make it. Uncle Jacob was on his mission, and Uncle Alex hadn't received the Melchizedek Priesthood yet. Uncle Chan and Uncle Joe had to work, but they wanted to be there for you, and came later to our house to celebrate.
Giving blessings is a sacred privilege. The giver of the blessing, if he is worthy, becomes the mouth of God, and the words he speaks are God's words. I tried very hard to not think about what you would be blessed with so that I could hear the Spirit whisper God's will to me.
I did feel the Spirit, Ayden, and I was guided by our Heavenly Father in blessing you. Your Aunt Necia wrote down the main points, and I remembered a few more afterwards. These are by no means the only blessings you will receive throughout your life, nor do they necessarily represent the main blessings you will have. These are only some of the things with which your Heavenly and earthly fathers wanted to bless you.
- You are blessed to be able to accomplish the things you are supposed to do in this life.
- You are blessed with the Spirit of Elijah. You will feel the love of your ancestors and desire to help them on their path to salvation as they have helped you on your path to yours.
- You are blessed with the gift of faith.
- You are blessed with the gift of knowledge of "worldly and secular things" as well as spiritual and religious things. You will be able to use your knowledge to help you make the best choices in life.
- You are blessed with a knowledge of the Savior's love for you.
- You are blessed with a wonderful family that is here for you to help and support you throughout your life.
- You are blessed with a knowledge of the deep love of your Heavenly and earthly parents.
I want to stress to you again that these are not all of the blessings you will receive in your life; these are only the ones your imperfect but loving father could hear the Spirit whisper when he took you in your arms to give you your first father's blessing. I know that I did not make these blessings up. I know that I was guided by the Holy Ghost to say the things I said, and I know that these blessings will serve you as guides on your path through this life.
Finally, I wanted to show you a picture of some of the people that came to your party. This picture was taken an hour or two after it started, so a lot of my cousins, aunts, and uncles had already left. We should have gotten a picture of everyone, but I'm afraid we didn't! If you ever feel down, alone, or unloved, I want you to remember all of these smiling faces; I want you to remember that they are smiling because of you - and that there are countless more on both sides of the veil who love you and want you to succeed.
I love you, Ayden. I love you more than words could ever express. You can't imagine how many people came to support you today; you can't imagine how much they love you - but your mother and I love you even more than that.
Thank you so much for letting us be your parents.
Sincerely,
Your Grateful Daddy
